Wherefore Art Thou, Father - 1321 Words
Wherefore Art Thou, Father? Many children throughout time suffer from the trauma of being born to a parent that does more to hurt their child than to help them grow. Parents are crucial to the development of a childââ¬â¢s mental well-being and confidence to become the best version of themselves. Without the guidance, wisdom, and understanding that only comes from a parent, children from that background have a harder time with stability of the mind and life. Instability on both the interior and exterior can only lead to the buildup of many emotions that could corrupt with the slightest trigger. Many do not know how to express their feelings yet some channel their emotions through writing including poems. In ââ¬Å"Daddyâ⬠by Sylvia Plath, she portrays how an abusive parent can severely affect the mentality of an adult from the trauma of their childhood through the use of allusions, similes, and diction. Her writing allows others to connect to her feelings of mistreatment, ange r, and abandonment that she associates with her father. Henceforth, Plath decided to use the Nazis and their dictator as allusions to her fatherââ¬â¢s behavior during the time of her childhood. An allusion is a reference to something outside of a poem that carries a history of meaning and a strong emotional connection. Plath uses the Nazis and their dictator as the references in her poem because they carry historical and emotional significance when one thinks about suffering and cruel treatment. 2006 Hurricane Risk Case Study Essay Example For Students
2006 Hurricane Risk Case Study Essay 1. How profitable are property and casualty insurance companies? Answer: Property and casualty insurance protects property (houses, cars, boats, and so on) against losses due to accidents, fire, disasters, and other calamities. Property and casualty policies tend to be short-term contracts and, thatââ¬â¢s why the subject to frequent renewal is, and one more characteristic feature is the absence of savings component. Property and casualty premiums are based on the probability of sustaining the loss. To estimate the key determinant of the price of an insurance policy, i. . risks, insurance companies take third-party proceedings that develop models of catastrophe loss probabilities. Based on the numbers form Exhibit 5 of the case we see that according to AIR Worldwide which provides information on the loss probability that Insured Loss if the listed Hurricanes Recurred in 2006 is 151. 2% more than the case writer estimates of Actual Reported Damage in 2006. As you see from the table below differences in monetary terms and percentage change between these two different sources are huge except those figures with minus sign. So, we can say that prices are not fixed and depend on the third-party vendorsââ¬â¢ probability calculations which are much higher than actual estimates suggested by casewiters. Consequently, the profits of property and casualty insurance companies can be high. * Casewriter estimate ** Source: AIR Worldwide Besides, Reinsurance may reduce their risk exposure by allocating a portion of the risk to another company in exchange for a portion of the premium. Reinsurance allows writing larger policies because a portion of the policy is actually held by another firm. Also, profits of these companies strongly depend on unforeseen risks due to unpredictable nature of accidents, fire, natural disasters like hurricane, tsunami, etc. However, from the Exhibit 7 of the case we see that Investment Income is vitally important to continue operations of property-casualty insurance companies. To see the importance of the income from these companiesââ¬â¢ investments and to see how it affects Net Income we put zero in the line on Investment Income holding other numbers constant (based on Exhibit 7: Income Statistics): We see that without property-casualty companiesââ¬â¢ Investment Income the Net Income is negative. So, we can say that Insurance Losses is offset by Investment Income from which these companies only gain. 2. Purchasing insurance: what should Joe Martinez do? Answer: According to the statistical data in the Exhibit 1 (see the 2006, Hurricane risk case study) about the frequency of US Hurricanes by state of Landfall (1900-2004), we can say that, unfortunately the most frequent hurricanes happened on the Southeast of US, especially in Florida. But the most of them have only 1-3 categories. This means that hurricanes may cause damages trees, shrubs and average damage to the building. There was only one hurricane in the Florida, which had 1st category and seven of them had 4th category. The problem of Joe Martinez is that insurance rates are on the rise. These increases have been driven by a combination of higher than expected hurricane-related claims as well as increased costs related to reinsurance (i. e. , insurance sold to other insurers to mitigate the risk of losses). Beyond this, the recent economic turmoil has put additional strain on insurance companies, resulting in pressure to increase premiums. The bad thing is that Joe Martinez might be in need of hurricane protection. From the case, we know that his house near the beach and it was no match for direct hit from hurricane, and this is good thing. But there is a high probability that the hurricane will destroy or damage his house at the next time. In many cases, the damage caused by hurricanes will be covered by basic homeownerââ¬â¢s insurance policy. An increasing number of policies actually exclude hurricane-related damage, in which case heââ¬â¢ll need to buy additional coverage. Note that, even if he does have coverage, heââ¬â¢ll still need to keep a decent amount of cash on hand to protect himself. Is Counselling An Art Or Science EssayIn Diagram #1 (see the attachment 1 at the end of the document) you can see the portion of Property insurance premiums in the General insurance sector for 2007, 2008, 2009 years. Casualty insurance is included into General insurance sector. So in Diagram #2 (see the attachment 1 at the end of the document) you can see who the main players in this sector of insurance are. Kazakhstan insurance market for the first time showed growth during last two years. Kazakhstans insurance companies collected 74. 9 billion tenge in premiums in January-June 2010, or a 33. % increase compared to the same period last year, says a press release issued by the Kazakh Financial Supervision Agency (FSA). Within the overall volume of premiums, mandatory insurance amounted to 15. 8 billion tenge (up 21. 5% as compared to the same period last year), voluntary private insurance totaled 16. 4 billion tenge (up 56. 2%), and voluntary property insurance made 42. 7 billion t enge (a 31. 4% increase). Using appropriate constructs and techniques evaluate GUSââ¬â¢s portfolio of concerns. Provide recommendations for the hereafter development of the portfolio. In his book Competitive Strategyââ¬â¢ Michael Porter introduces the construct of nucleus competency and declares that it is of import that a company knows and understands what is coreââ¬â¢ to the success of itââ¬â¢s concern and how to protect this from rival reproduction in order to keep leading in their market. However, in todayââ¬â¢s fast traveling environment singularity is difficult to continue and both merchandises and engineerings are able to be replicated at a really fast gait, therefore go forthing the distinguishing factor as the quality of service it offers itââ¬â¢s clients over and above itââ¬â¢s rivals. Where multiple merchandises, services or concern units are concerned the interrelatednesss between each strategic concern unit is overriding to success ( Porter, Competitive Advantageââ¬â¢ ) and a true trial of corporate competence. The star is Experian, which has a high market portion in a turning market and generates big amounts of hard currency for GUS as an entity. As seen from the SBU analysis, costs associating to the direction of this concern unit are low in comparing to the returns, compared with ARG and Burberry. Income from this SBU can besides be used to fund and develop Burberry. Having ascertained the customersââ¬â¢ exact demands and merchandise demands, Trueman and Jobber take the construct farther by taking the design rule to a competitory degree and presenting the four dimensions Value, Image, Process and Production ( VIPP ) . Should Experian and Burberryââ¬â¢s introduce such a system, so this value added procedure monitorsââ¬â¢ the new product/ service development through construct to bringing. In tray Item 2 - Assignment Example Based on the factors considered by banks, this report analyses the liquidity and cash flow position of Gainsborough by using Current Ratio, Quick Ratio, Debt Ratio, Interest Coverage Ratio and Cash Flow to Debt Ratio. Current Ratio: The current ratio of the company is 1.04 which shows a good liquidity position. Gainsborough is at a good liquidity position if all its current assets have the potential to be turned around easily. Quick Ratio: A quick ratio is done in order to look at the liquidity position more conservatively. The quick ratio of Gainsborough stands at 0.02 which is at an unacceptably lower level. The company has only very few high liquid assets in its current assets. Debt Ratio: Debt ratio of the company is 0.85 or 85%. This ratio indicates that the company is highly leveraged. Gainsborough has depended on a huge amount of borrowed funds in order to generate assets. At the current liquidity position of the company, it is not of advantage to the bank to grant an increase in the overdraft. The main ratio that the bank should consider in granting overdraft is quick ratio. It is evident that Gainsborough has very few cash equivalent current asset that can help to meet the current liabilities. It should be noted that the company does not maintain any cash or cash equivalent assets that can meet its current level of overdraft position itself. Gainsborough should improve its current assets level. Majority of the current assets of the company are inventories which are not as liquid as that of cash. Therefore, Gainsborough should plough back profits and always maintain a certain level of cash. This in turn will help to improve its quick ratio. Over years, the company should focus on bringing the quick ratio to a level more than 1. The debt ratio of Gainsborough does not show a good picture. In fact, the company uses more borrowed funds than

John Clellon Holmes writes the article ââ¬ËThis is the Beat Generationââ¬â¢ in New york Times Magazine in November 16, 1952 which gives several sentiments about the generation culture. The first concern is an eighteen-year old California girl who had been picked up for smoking marijuana and wanted to talk about it. In view of her contention, one of every five people you meet from the beat generation is a user of marijuana and people should leave them alone to do their own things. The writer is also concerned with a girl sentiment in a court courthouse for stealing a car and says that she believed small business to be dead and it intended to become a comfortable cog in the in the largest corporation it could find. The same generation is caught in the uncovering of the first non-virgin club in Illinois. The writer brings out the image of a group that drinks themselves to relaxation and as a way to solve their problems. Their sexuality morals are in question when the author points out that secretary of the beat generation are confused if to sleep with their boyfriends anytime, anywhere or to wait. They drink around and drive off to Detroit on a whim. The author sees the origin of the word ââ¬Ëbeatââ¬â¢ as obscure. To him it implies the feeling of having been used while still raw. Human Resource Management in Europe Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Human Resource Management in Europe - Essay Example 1998; Roderiguez and Ventura, 2003). The difference in perspective on the value of people in organizations and the validity of HRM, particularly in non-Western Countries may be best understood in terms of the concept of locus of human value (Jackson et al., 2003). Jackson et al. (2003) came up with conceptual map of international organization and human resource management in different countries. HRM as a concept emerged in the mid-1980 in the US when two models-the Harvard framework (Beer et al. 1984) and the Michigan Model (Fombrun et al., 1984) were produced. Harvard model is also known as soft model of HRM / Harvard Map of HRM / multiple stakeholders model, argues that human resource policies are to be influenced by two significant considerations: (1) Situational factors: The internal and external environmental factor of the organizations that include (i) labour market conditions (ii) societal Values (iii) business strategies (iv) technologies (v) managerial philosophies and (vi) market conditions will constrain the formation of HRM policies. (2) Stakeholders interests. The stakeholders influence the short-tern HRM policies. They include (i) management employees (ii) unions and (iii) govt. agencies. Further, the model classifies HRM policies and practices in to four themes as follows: HR flows, Recruitment, selection, placement, appraisal and assessment, promotion, termi nation and the like. The Harvard model has existed considerable influence over the theory and practice of HRM, particularly as a result of its contention that strategy is the concern of management in general rather than a personnel function in particular (Armstrong, 1999). The Michigan Model has a harder, less humanistic touch, holding that employees are resources in the same way as any other business resource. They must be obtained (i) as cheaply as possible (ii) used sparingly and (iii) developed and exploited as much as possible. John Storey (1987) termed it as utilitarian instrumentalism. The hard model of HRM focuses on the crucial importance of the close integration of HR policies, systems and activities with business strategies on HR system to achieve the strategic objectives oh the organization. This model emphasized the quantitative strategic business aspects of managing the headcount resource, in a rational way (Storey, 1987). The Michigan theorist highlighted the followin g as being the most important HR issues to achieve such a match. Selection of the most suitable people to meet business needs, Performance in the pursuit of business objectives, appraisal, monitoring performance and providing feed back to the organization and its employee, Rewards for appropriate performance development of skills and knowledge required to meet business objectives. The essential features of their model are that it is focused on individual and organizational performance is based on strategic control, organizational structure, system for managing people concentrates on managing human assets to achieve strategic goals contributes to human resource

In short, EP industry normally finds and produces crude oil and natural gas. In addition, the upstream oil industries include well exploration, drilling and operation. The upstream oil industry is important because it determines supply which affects prices in the downstream sector. The upstream sector is primarily concerned with finding and utilizing the available petroleum supply whiles the downstream and midstream sectors that are concerned about the demand of oil and its transportation.Ãâà Background of Study HRM division in PETRONAS strives to be a strategic partner within the business area, aiming to develop and deliver HR strategies, approaches and services which generate productive impact for the workforce and create value to the organization. The various function along the HR value chain are varied and include organization design, people training, talent sourcing, people development, performance management, remuneration and employee/industrial relation. In HRM division, they move along with the technology advancement through reducing the manual workload of these administrative activities and began to electronically automate many of HR process by introducing specialized Human Resource Management System (HRIS). HRIS is expected to drive Human Resource (HR)s transition from a focus on Human Resource Management (HRM) to Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM). This strategic role not only adds a valuable dimension to the HR function, but also changes the competencies that define HR professional and practitioner success. Definition of Term Human Resource Information System A human Resource Information System is a systematic procedure for collecting, storing, maintaining, retrieving, and validating data needed by an organization about its human resources, personnel activities, and organization about its characteristic. (Kovach and Catcart, 1999) HR Processes HR processes starts by planning labor requirements. This include, resource specifications, long range planning, forecasting supply and demand of labor, staffing, applicant qualification, training programs, costs analysis, salary, contract type, and other related issues. Other key HR processes involve recruiting, selecting, performance appraising, training and orientation, career development, occupational health and safety, and compensation and benefits.(Boeteng,2007) Problem Statement The use of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) has been advocated as an opportunity for human resource (HR) professional to become strategic partner with top management. Decreased costs, improved communication, and decrease in time spent on HR activities should create an environmental where HR department in would play a more strategic role in the organization. The idea of HRIS would allow the HR function to become more efficient and provide better information for decision making. Consequently, the idea of HRIS is seen as an important value towards HR department as a strategic partner of organization. The question remains whether HRIS fulfilled its promise; this study is an initial attempt to measure the factors that influence the importance of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in HR department towards its workforce and organization generally. Research Objective To identify the factors that influencing the importance of Human Resource Information System in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) To determine the assessment of the factors that influencing the importance of Human Resource Information System in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) Research Question What are the factors that influencing the importance of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) What are the assessment towards the factors that influencing the importance of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) in Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) Scope of Study This study will deepen the knowledge of Human Resource Information System (HRIS). Environmental Ethics Essay -- Ethics Philosophy Global Warming Climate
Our modern industrial society provides us with great physical and psychological comfort. We live not with a fear for our lives, we are politically stable and dominant; even the terrorist attacks against us cannot strip us of our safety bubble. We live with the luxury of convenience provided by our technologies, such as household appliances, personal computers, indoor heating and plumbing, personal automobiles with ââ¬Å"endless fuelâ⬠the list is infinite. We live in a disposable society, where it is not commonplace to have material goods fixed, but rather replaced. We have disposable everything, diapers, water bottles, contacts, paintbrushesâ⬠¦ again, our convenience is never-ending. This convenient lifestyle coupled with our massive desire for material goods has created immense devastation to the Earth. As time progresses we learn of more tragic outcomes of our lifestyles. I will discuss the major environmental tragedies that are facing our planet and possible solut ions to the disasters. I will also give comparative thoughts by a handful of philosophers and dispute our moral obligations to the environment and for those whom occupy it. I feel that we need to do something soon to stop the destruction before it is too late. First off, the biggest argument for preserving the environment would be; we have an obligation to future generations. Singer discusses these thoughts in his chapter on environmental ethics in his book, Practical Ethics. He begins with the assumption that people are self-interested, and while current philosophy and economics fail to present answers to the problem of obligations to future generations, we still have them. He recognizes that we do not know exactly what future people will cherish; will they cho... ...e need to come together and work towards a common goal: a cleaner America. Donââ¬â¢t think with tunnel vision, think long term, and consider how quickly humans have made an impact on the environment. Earth has been surviving with out us for millions of years and it took us a couple hundred to wreck havoc. There are small things that we can do everyday to help right here in Alma; recycle, walk to 7-11, bike to the baseball games, and etc. All great things start with an idea and starting is the hardest part. Accounting Career
Accounting Career Essay Kawanza Carey Everest Online University Strategies for Success 221 Accounting Career Essay Most people think accounting is just crunching numbers all day; everyone uses some form of accounting. There is much more to accounting than just crunching numbers. There are many types of accountants, covering a wide range of the business world, becoming an accountant opens a wide range of career opportunities. I want to become an accountant because itââ¬â¢s something that Iââ¬â¢m familiar with since I prepare tax returns. Math has always been my favorite subject I enjoy working with numbers. Accountants help to ensure that firms run efficiently, taxes are paid properly and on time and public records are kept accurately. They analyze financial information for all different types of companies, individual clients, and Federal, State, and local governments. Beyond doing the basic tasks; providing information to clients by preparing , analyzing, and verifying financial documents; some accountants offer budget analysis, financial and investment planning, information technology consulting, and limited legal services. There are four major fields of accounting and auditing: public accounting, management accounting, government accounting, and internal auditing. Public accountants perform a broad range of accounting, auditing, tax, and consulting activities for their clients. Some public accountants decide to prepare tax returns while others offer advice in areas such as compensation. Public accountants; many who are Certified Public Accountants (CPAs), generally have their own businesses or work for public accounting firms. Management accountants are responsible for budgeting, performance evaluation, cost management, and asset management. They analyze and interpret the financial information that corporate executives need to make sound decisions. Government accountants and auditors work in the public sector, maintaining and examining the records of the government agencies and auditing private businesses and individuals whose activities are subject to government regulations or taxation. Those employed y the Federal Government may work as Internal Revenue Service agents or in financial management, financial institution examination, or budget analysis and administration. Internal auditors verify the effectiveness of their organizationââ¬â¢s internal controls and check for mismanagement, waste, or fraud. They examine and evaluate their firmsââ¬â¢ financial and information systems, management procedures, and internal controls to ensure that records are accurate and controls are adequate. Most accountants work in an office setting while other may be able to do part of their work at home. They work a 40-hour week job, but some may work longer hours if self-employed and have quite a few clients. During the tax season tax specialist often work longer hours. Accounting, bookkeeping, and auditing clerk are required to have a high school degree at minimum. Having an associate degree in business or accounting is required for some positions. Accountants and auditors need at least a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in accounting or a related field. Some employers prefer applicants with a masterââ¬â¢s degree in accounting or business administration. An accounting clerk should be very comfortable with working with numbers, enjoy routine because youââ¬â¢re going to be doing the same thing daily. Other personality characteristics to be a successful accounting clerk are computer literate, great communication skills, and ethical. You have to be professional at all time because there may be a lot of irate clients upset about getting audited. If math is your favorite subject and you get along with everybody then being an accountant is a great career for you. Each year, numerous jobs will become available, as clerks transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force. There would be many opportunities for temporary and part-time work. Clerks who can carry out a wider range of accounting activities will be in greater demand than specialized clerks. An example is the demand for full-charge bookkeeper is expected to increase, because they can perform a wider variety of financial transactions. Certified Bookkeepers (CBs) and those with several years of accounting or bookkeeping experience who have demonstrates that they can handle a range of tasks will have the best job prospects. Accountants will always be in demand so I hope to be successful when I complete my degree. (n. d. ) References General Accountant Certified General Accountant Board â⬠¦ (n. d. ). Living Fossil Plants - Ginkgo, Metasequoia, Wollemia
Living Fossil Plants - Ginkgo, Metasequoia, Wollemia A living fossilà is a species that is known from fossils looking just the way it looks today. Among animals, the most famous living fossil is probably theà coelacanth. Here are three living fossils from the plant kingdom. Afterward, we will point out why living fossil is no longer a good term to use. Ginkgo, Ginkgo biloba Ginkgoes are a very old line of plants, their earliest representatives being found in rocks of Permian ageà some 280 million years old. At times in the geologic past, they have been widespread and abundant, and the dinosaurs surely fed upon them. The fossil species Ginkgo adiantoides, indistinguishable from the modern ginkgo, is found in rocks as old as Early Cretaceous (140 to 100 million years ago), which appears to have been the ginkgos heyday. Fossils of ginkgo species are found throughout the northern hemisphere in rocks dating from Jurassic to Miocene times. They disappear from North America by the Pliocene and vanish from Europe by the Pleistocene. The ginkgo tree is well-known today as a street tree and ornamental tree, but for centuries it appears to have been extinct in the wild. Only cultivated trees survived, in Buddhist monasteries in China, until they were planted across Asia starting about a thousand years ago. Ginkgo Photo GalleryGrowing GinkgoesLandscaping with Ginkgoes Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides The dawn redwood is a conifer that sheds its leaves every year, unlike its cousins the coast redwood and giant sequoia. Fossils of closely related species date from late in the Cretaceousà and occur all over the northern hemisphere. Their most famous locality is probably on Axel Heiberg Island in the Canadian Arctic, where stumps and leaves of Metasequoia sit still unmineralized from the warm Eocene Epoch some 45 million years ago. The fossil species Metasequoia glyptostroboides was first described in 1941. Its fossils were known before that, but they were confused with those of the true redwood genus Sequoia and the swamp cypress genus Taxodium for more than a century. M. glyptostroboides was thought to be long extinct. The latest fossils, from Japan, dated from the early Pleistocene (2 million years ago). But a living specimen in China was found a few years later, and now this critically endangered species is thriving in the horticultural trade. Only about 5000 wild trees remain. Recently, Chinese researchers described a single isolated specimen in Hunan province whose leaf cuticle differs from all other dawn redwoods and exactly resembles the fossil species. They suggest that this tree is truly the living fossil and that the other dawn redwoods have evolved from it by mutation. The science, along with much human detail, is presented by Qin Leng in a recent issue of Arnoldia. Qin also reports vigorous conservation efforts in Chinas Metasequoia Valley. Wollemi Pine, Wollemia nobilis The ancient conifers of the southern hemisphere are in the araucaria plant family, named for the Arauco region of Chile where the monkey-puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana) lives. It has 41 species today (including the Norfolk Island pine, kauri pine and bunya-bunya), all of them scattered among the continental fragments of Gondwana: South America, Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand and New Caledonia. Ancient araucarians forested the globe in Jurassic times. In late 1994, a ranger in Australias Wollemi National Park in the Blue Hills found a strange tree in a small, remote canyon. It was found to match fossil leaves going back 120 million years in Australia. Its pollen grains were an exact match to the fossil pollen species ââ¬â¹Dilwynites, found in Antarctica, Australia, and New Zealand in rocks as old as Jurassic. The Wollemi pine is known in three small groves, and all specimens today are as genetically alike as twins. Hard-core gardeners and plant fanciers are very interested in the Wollemi pine, not just for its rarity but because it has beautiful foliage. Look for it at your local progressive arboretum. Why Living Fossil Is a Poor Term The name living fossil is unfortunate in some ways. The dawn redwood and Wollemi pine present the best case for the term: recent fossils that appear identical, not just similar, to a living representative. And the survivors were so few that we may not have enough genetic information to explore their evolutionary history in depth. But most living fossils dont match that story. The plant group of cycads is an example that used to be in the textbooks (and may still be). The typical cycad in yards and gardens is the sago palm, and it had supposedly been unchanged since Paleozoic time. But today there are about 300 species of cycad, and genetic studies show that most are only a few million years old. Besides genetic evidence, most living fossil species differ in small details from todays species: shell ornamentation, numbers of teeth, configuration of bones and joints. Although the line of organisms had a stable body plan that succeeded in a certain habitat and lifeway, its evolution never stopped. The idea that the species became evolutionarily stuck is the main thing wrong about the notion of living fossils. There is a similar term used by paleontologists for fossil types that disappear from the rock record, sometimes for millions of years, and then appear again: Lazarus taxa, named for the man that Jesus raised from the dead. A Lazarus taxon is not literally the same species, found in rocks millions of years apart. Taxon refers to any level of taxonomy, from the species through the genus and family up to the kingdom. The typical Lazarus taxon is a genus- a group of species- so that matches what we now understand about living fossils.

Good Business Schools With One-Year MBA Programs
Good Business Schools With One-Year MBA Programs A one-year MBA program is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program that takes 12 months to complete. One-year MBA programs are also known as fast-track MBA programs, accelerated MBA programs, or 12-month MBA programs. What differentiates this program from a traditional MBA program is the amount of time it takes to complete the program and earn a degree. Traditional MBA programs typically take two years to complete. So, a one-year MBA program allows students to earn their degree in half the time it takes an average student. One-year MBA programs also have financial benefits over two-year programs. For instance, tuition is half the price because you have to pay for just one year of education rather than two. There is also missed income to consider. Attending school full-time for two years means two years without full-time employment income. A one-year MBA program gets you back to work in half the time. Business Schools With One-Year MBA Programs INSEAD began offering the first one-year MBA program decades ago. These programs are now commonplace in many European schools. The popularity of the programs has prompted many U.S. business schools to offer an accelerated MBA option in addition to traditional two-year MBA programs, executive MBA programs, and part-time MBA programs. You wonââ¬â¢t find a one-year MBA program at every business school, but you should have no problem locating a one-year MBA program at a good business school. Lets take a look at some of the well-known and reputable business schools that allow students to earn an MBA in one year or less. INSEAD We start our exploration of one-year MBA programs with INSEAD because it pioneered the one-year MBA and is widely considered to be one of the best MBA schools in the world. INSEAD has campuses in France, Singapore, andà Abu Dhabi. Their accelerated MBA program can be completed in just 10 months. During that time, students take 20 courses (13 core management courses and 7 electives). Students can choose from more than 75 different elective options, which allows for a fully customizable experience. Another positive attribute of this program is the opportunity to experience multicultural education. INSEAD students are diverse, representing more than 75 nationalities. During the first four months of the program, students complete dozens of group projects so that they can learn what it is like to lead and work in diverse teams. At least half of INSEAD grads go on to own or manage their own company. Read more about the INSEAD MBA program. Kellogg School of Management The Kellogg School of Management at Northwest University is one of the highest ranked U.S. schools with a one-year MBA program. Instead, Kellogg students get the option to skip core courses and focus on electives that match their career goals. With more than 200 courses to choose from, students can really make sure their education is as broad or as focused as they would like it to be. The customization continues with experiential learning. Kellogg has more than 1,000 experiential learning opportunities to choose from, including special labs, courses, and projects that provide real experience with critical business and management issues. One-year MBA students start out with a core period that emphasizes entrepreneurship before moving on to a lab period that consists of two accelerated labs designed to provideà experiential, challenge-based learning. The program culminates with an elective period that allows students to customize the rest of their education with courses, study at Wharton (a partner school), competitive IE consulting projects, a 7-10 week internship, and other unique opportunities. What it feels like to skydive Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
What it feels like to skydive - Essay Example Then there is a downward acceleration, where someone falls with no expectation to land. This occurs at high speeds of about 150 miles per hour and surprisingly, it is hard to feel the speed (Mattern, 2010). At one moment, it feels like there is zero gravity where there is a floating sensation. After a while, an individual realizes that there is an upward push from the strength of the wind. The environment is contradictory because it is calm and so loud at the same time. After a successful adventure, it is time to pull the chute. This immediately changes the excitement and the mood of the experience. The chute goes down in a slow manner that someone can get dizzy and only the wind reminds someone of the heights. In a moment, the chute makes landing easy and enjoyable. At this point, a person feels dizzy and their ears could pop due to the changes in atmospheric pressure. Skydiving is indeed a worthy

Nominal and Real GDP Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Nominal and Real GDP - Essay Example As per common belief nominal GDP is the total of all the products and services produced by a country in a particular time span, generally one year, expressed in current prices (NZIER.org, 2006). Nominal GDP technically does not include all the goods and services produced by any country. This would lead to double counting of certain products. To avoid this error, only the final product value is taken into consideration. In this value the share of intermediaries (Eg: Raw material suppliers) is apportioned according to their value add to the final product. This usage of intermediates to produce a final product is called as intermediate consumption. Hence nominal GDP is the sum total of all the products and services produced in a country in a specific time period minus the intermediate consumption (NZIER.org, 2006). Increase in nominal GDP is not a reflection of actual economic growth according to economists (Baumol and Blinder, 2004). In nominal GDP, as the current prices are considered, the increase over the previous year is not comparable. Nominal GDP will also show variations according to inflation. If inflation is higher, then nominal GDP is higher. This explains that nominal GDP only reflects changes in prices and does not reflect changes in output levels. Hence GDP is indexed against a base year and the increase from that year is calculated.

Stock Market and Brand Portfolio Essay Example for Free
Stock Market and Brand Portfolio Essay 1. Brand Portfolio a. What is your 5 year plan regarding the brand portfolio across the two markets. Give justification Our Period 2 results have swept the industry and we have become number one team in our industry. We are the leaders in value market shares (23%) and unit market shares (29%) in Squazols market. Our 5 year plan will focus on maintaining the brand equity in the Squazols market as we can see the 5-year anticipatory growth in manufacturing and construction sector and we have products strategically placed in Squazols market. Although we have invested in RD of new product in Trigols market on anticipation of new segment in Utility, but as Trigols market is capital intensive and we donââ¬â¢t have market statistics to support new products in that market, we do not see requirement to diversify into Trigols market. Our plan will be to slowly diversify in the new market based on Ansoffââ¬â¢s grid platform, if we anticipate the need. Eg: based on profitability and market growth and share, we will position our products as Stars (with RD expenditure) or if it does not perform well, we can withdraw the product, and diversify into Trigols market. a. How much do you think will be your stock price index after 5 years As per our actual SPI rise from Period 1 to Period 2, it has increased by (1266-1061)/1061 = 19.3 %. Now, as we have been number two player in the Buffalo industry in period 1, and have become market leader in period 2, we anticipate similar growth pattern in future with an average 20% growth year on year. As such, our 5 year conservative estimate for SPI will be ((1.2)^4)*1266= 2625.17 assuming 20 % year on year growth due to our strategies and brand portfolio as described above. Physics of Baseball :: physics sport sports baseball
Introduction Baseball is a fairly simple game, once you understand the simple mix of science involved in baseball. Also, there is much more to the game of baseball than simply hitting and pitching the ball. Here is a few bits of information about a baseball that is hit 400 feet. 1. For each 1000 feet of altitude you can add 7 Feet. 2. For each 10 degrees of air temp you can add 4 Feet. 3. For each 10 degrees of ball temp you can add 4 Feet. 4. For each 1 inch drop in Barometer you can add 6 Feet. 5. For each 1 mph following wind you can add 3 Feet. 6. With the Ball at 100 % Humidity you can subtract 30 Feet. 7. When the ball is Pitched, for every 5 mph you can add 3.5 Feet. 8. For a ball Hit along the foul line you can add 11 Feet. 9. When an Aluminum Bat is used you can add 30 Feet. A couple more bits of general information. 1. A curve ball that seems to break over 14 inches never actually deviates from a straight line by more than 3 inches 2. There is no such thing in baseball as a rising fastball! 3. The collision of a ball on the bat lasts only about 1/1000th of a second. 4. That a batted ball should be able to travel no farther than 545 Feet. The Path of a Baseball A baseball will always follow a parabolic motion when hit with the bat. This is mainly due to the force of gravity acting on the baseball after it is hit. A baseball like most other things follows the three laws of motion that were created by Sir Isaac Newton. The three laws of motion are: 1. Law 1. An object continues in its initial state of rest or motion with uniform velocity unless it is acted on by an unbalanced, or net external, force. 2. Law 2.

Lofts at Las Colinas Apartments
My area of choice is Irving, Texas. My evaluation shall be based on a one bedroom apartment. The cost of renting apartments across this area will vary depending on various factors, some of which include the location of the apartment, how pet friendly it is, and the amenities available (e.g. swimming pool, fitness center, high speed internet, etc.).The ten apartments that I shall evaluate are: Archstone at MacArthur Apartments (located on 1100 Hidden Ridge Road), Lincoln Lakeside (on 6727 Deseo), Huntington Ridge Apartments (situated at 4220 Esters Road), Hillcrest Apartments (located on 3149 West Walnut Hill Lane), Tuscan Villas Apartments (located on 6445 Love Dr), Delano Apartments (located on 1001 Lake Carolyn Parkway).Lofts at Las Colinas Apartments (located on 1050 Lake Carolyn Parkway), Glen Arbor Apartments (located on 4003 N Belt Line Rd), and Surrey Oaks I and Surrey Oaks II Apartments (both located on 1814 Estrada Parkway) (MyNewPlace, 2008).Standard amenities across all th ese apartments include a pool, spa, package receiving, storage space, a fitness center, a BBQ/Picnic area, and on-site maintenance. For a standard one bedroom house, Archstone at MacArthur charges an average rate of $845. In addition to these amenities, the location of Archstone at MacArthur is ideal. Situated in the heart of Las Colinas, it is sandwiched between shopping malls and restaurants.Las Colinasââ¬â¢ central location betweenà Dallas and Fort Worth and its proximity to the DFW Airport has made it a magnet for the offices of corporate bodies, and also boasts of luxury hotels, country clubs, exclusive resorts and luxurious mansions. This has made it a prestigious address both for up market homes and offices and it remains a planned community. In addition, pets are also allowed (MyNewPlace, 2008).Lincoln Lakeside Apartments, in La Villita, San Antonio, charge much more than Archstone at MacArthur Apartments. At $930, these apartments however offer more amenities. In addit ion to the amenities offered by Archstone at MacArthur Apartments, Lincoln Lakeside also offers high speed internet, a sundeck, a business center, and a clubhouse. These extra facilities would help explain the higher rates charged.Like the Las Colinas, La Villita is a planned community, located on the eastern banks of the San Antonio River, and is served by a large number of shops, galleries and restaurants. It is in the Central Loop (ââ¬Å"downtown San Antonioâ⬠) area which is bound by Interstates 35, 37 and the US highway 90, which run around it (MyNewPlace, 2008).Lofts at Las Colinas Apartments charge even more. At $1, 219 for a one bedroom apartment, it is one of the most expensive addresses in Irving. However, it offers much more in the way of both amenities and location than either Lincoln Lakeside or Archstone at MacArthur. In addition to the standard facilities and in addition to high speed internet, a sundeck, a business center and a clubhouse, Lofts at Las Colinas Apa rtments offer controlled access, a courtyard, night patrol, a rec room, and elevators. In addition, it offers access to four major freeways, is located at the heart of the Los Colinas CBD, and fronts the promenade of the Lake Carolyn. It restricts some breeds of pets and as a matter of policy allows a maximum of only two pets (MyNewPlace, 2008).In contrast, apartments such as Surrey Oaks 1 Apartments which have only the standard amenities cost much, much lower. At Surrey Oaks 1, one would pay an average of only $450.Surrey Oaks II, with the only extra feature being night time patrols, go for a comparable rate of $470. Glen Arbor Apartments, which have similar amenities and no extras, go for only $489. Hillcrest Apartments have even fewer amenities and charge only $480 for a one bedroom apartment. At $535, Huntington Ridge Apartments throw in an extra benefit in the form of night patrols (MyNewPlace, 2008).At an average rate of $979 for a one bedroom apartment, Delano Apartments are a lso considered upscale. Reflective of the rates are the extra amenities that the apartments offer. In addition to the standard facilities that one would find in Surrey Oaks for example, Delano Apartments also offer concierge services, a sundeck, elevators, high speed internet, a courtyard, a rec room, a clubhouse, and a business center.Like the Delano Apartments, Tuscan Hill Villas Apartments also charge premium rates for more top-of-the-class amenities. At $935 a month for a one bedroom apartment, the apartments have all the facilities that upscale apartments such as Delano, Lofts at Las Colinas, and Lincoln Lakeside Apartments offer (MyNewPlace, 2008).An examination of the location also shows that homes that are considered upscale (more luxurious and comfortable) charge higher rates. This explains why the exclusive Lofts at Las Colinas is almost two times as expensive as Surrey Oaks 1.à Those with more amenities are more expensive. That explains why Delano is much more costly th an Hillcrest. Those apartments which are located close to transit systems, in downtown locations, or close to shopping malls charge relatively higher rates than those which are not.Lofts at Las Colinasââ¬â¢ close proximity to the downtown of both Dallas and Fort Worth has certainly also contributed to the princely sum of $1,219 that it charges for a one bedroom apartment. Areas that charge more than $900 are considered upscale (MyNewPlace, 2008).

Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary
There has been a long debate about the Constitutionality of paid military chaplains. Is there a legal basis for such or is it a mere supposition? Does the government have a legitimate and legal basis to pay chaplains for their services or is it doing so ââ¬Å"just becauseâ⬠and is getting away with it? Could it be legally challenged and done away with? These are the questions. The First Amendment of the Bill of Rights to the United States Constitution is the legal basis of the military chaplaincy. Here is how.The First Amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. The amendment is generally viewed as being composed of two separate clauses; the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. Each of these clauses is designed to protect those fundamental human rights which are so foundational to the ideals of our nation: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There are many references to the military chaplaincies as legitimate exceptions to the ââ¬Å"Establishment Clauseâ⬠because they provide the right of ââ¬Å"free exerciseâ⬠of religion that is equally guaranteed under the First Amendment. It is this most important point that the chaplaincy clearly provides the military with a constitutional function, the ââ¬Å"free exerciseâ⬠of religion. The legal debate over paid chaplains sits on both clauses of the First Amendment: 1) Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, 2) or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;Describe your understanding of praying in ââ¬Å"Jesus Name. I have been fortunate in that I have not experienced any direct pressure in regards to praying in Jesusââ¬â¢ name. However, during public prayer in which soldiers are required to be in attendance, I always make the statement ââ¬Å"As I pray in my tradition, I encourage you to prayer in yours. â⬠This should be a common statement among chaplains. `Generally speaking, it is not soldiers of other faith traditions that are offended by prayers in Jesusââ¬â¢name, it is usually soldiers of no faith tradition whatsoever.Furthermore, although there are stories of religious persecution on both sides of the issue (Religious soldiers and Non- Religious soldiers), these issues have a tendency to be very allocated and reflect the particular command environment that the Chaplain is serving under. This is a very troubling issue and the best resolve is the development of a healthy relationship between the Chaplain and the Command in which the chaplain has the opportunity to advise the commander on these complicated issues. In reality, this can become quite complicated and some commanders have strong views on this topic (on both sides of the argument). Is it worth derailing many years of representing Christ to soldiers over the particular views of one commander? I would suggest that sometimes it is prudent to just get in the basket and go over the wall. Finally, I also understand that Chaplains and Chaplain Candidates like myself, that pray Christian prayers should be prepared to hear and support the right of Jewish and Muslim Chaplains to pray in their particular tradition as well. Finally, describe your understanding of the ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Ask, Donââ¬â¢t Tellâ⬠Policy and other issues of which you may be concerned.According to the Donââ¬â¢t Ask Donââ¬â¢t Tell repeal, service members will not be involuntarily separated for lawful homosexual conduct. Sexual orientation remains a personal and private matter. Sexual orientation and lawful homosexual conduct (statements, acts or same-sex marriage) are not a basis for separation, reassignment or special consideration. Sailors may inform others of their sexual orientation at their own discretion. In fact, the Department of Defense will not ask service members to identify their sexual orientation. The Department of Defense will not collect or maintain data on an individualââ¬â¢s sexual orientation. This Department of Defense policy on sexual orientation applies equally to all members of the Active, Reserve, and National Guard components of the military. With that being said, what does this mean in relationship to providing worship and counseling services to men and women who can now be open with their lifestyle. Chaplains will continue to have the very same freedom to practice their religion according to the tenets of their faith. In the context of their religious ministry, chaplains are not required to take actions that are inconsistent with their religious beliefs (e. g. , altering the content of sermons or religious counseling, sharing a pulpit with other chaplains or modifying forms of prayer or worship). However, when it comes to ministering to someone who is a homosexual , I feel that it is the pastorââ¬â¢s or chaplainââ¬â¢s duty to do so. The Title ââ¬Å"pastorâ⬠suggests two functions of church leaders so designated: nurturing and guidance. The nurturing aspect includes the general Christian responsibility of showing compassion for others, but his responsibility is accentuated because a pastor must set the example. Pastors or Chaplains must indeed set the example. Homosexual or not, that person who seeks counsel is still one of Godââ¬â¢s children only in a fallen state. Then again, arenââ¬â¢t we all? We are all still a work in progress. There isnââ¬â¢t a human being on this Earth that has defeated sin or struggle with sin. So I think some compassion is warranted when it comes to ministering to homosexuals.
